The Mission
MicroTau's mission is to improve the efficiency of the global aviation fleet, saving billions in fuel and megatonnes of CO2 every year. We need a Senior Engineer (Aerodynamics) and a Senior Engineer (Mechatronics) in our Accelerated Innovation Team to deliver breakthrough solutions rapidly (and with a sense of urgency) that will form the foundations for future generations of products, manufacturing, and test systems at MicroTau. You will report to the Accelerated Innovation Team Lead.
Please note: We are filling two distinct roles to approach the same problem set from two different perspectives.
What You Will Do
Find, prioritise, and review the most significant technical opportunities inside or outside the organisation that are in line with MicroTau’s mission and key strengths
Lead the discovery of solutions that can increase impact by an order of magnitude and beyond, by employing first principles thinking, changing the boundary conditions, and conventional wisdom
Lead and review the development of methodologies and capabilities as rapidly and efficiently as possible to iterate through ideas and demonstrate the validity (or lack thereof) of the core technology foundation of potential solutions.
Lead and review the development and validation of core technologies for potential solutions with a sense of urgency to ensure non-viable options are deprioritised as soon as possible in order to focus on viable pathways
About You:
Aerodynamics Focus
Degree in Aerodynamics or similar. Additional subject matter expertise in mechatronics and/or materials science preferred
5+ years industry experience in early-stage technology development
Demonstrated experience independently developing and validating low fidelity prototypes to de-risk innovative technologies with order of magnitude impacts
Strong experimental background and ability to validate concepts rapidly, learning new domain knowledge to do so
Enthusiastic to solve difficult problems and thrive in ambiguity
Embraces first principles thinking, challenging conventional wisdom and exploring counter-intuitive ideas
Demonstrates resourcefulness, adaptability, and autonomy, is biased to experimentation and action, and drives forward with a sense of urgency and resilience

Why You Should Join MicroTau
Impact: Aviation is one of the hardest to abate industries, and its share of global emissions is only growing. Join our mission to improve the efficiency of the global fleet and save millions of tonnes of CO2 every year
Technology: Our technology leverages the drag-reducing properties of shark skin to make aircraft more efficient. You'll be exposed to expertise and developments in materials, photolithography, fluid dynamics, and scale manufacturing
Team: Our team focuses on achieving our mission. We live our values of lift over drag, active transparency, and changing the boundary conditions, and we welcome new team members who want to do the same
Corporate Jet: We have (most of) a corporate jet. It won't fly, but it sure does look cool
