Meet the Team: Dr. Gary Wang
Meet Dr. Gary Wang, Technology Development Associate at MicroTau. Gary kept his ability to walk on water a secret during his interview process, but this now makes sense as he continues to work miracles in his R&D efforts.
Who are you and what do you do?
I'm Gary Wang, serving as a Technology Development Associate at MicroTau. In this role, I focus on refining existing processes and materials to enhance their efficiency and performance.
Tell us about your journey at MicroTau. What was your first role, and how did you get to where you are today?
I first joined MicroTau in December 2024 as a Technology Development Intern after I completed my PhD studies. This role was an incredible opportunity to dive deep into the practical application of the knowledge I gained during my research. I was immediately immersed in cutting-edge projects, contributing to the development of MicroTau's technology. This involved everything from conducting experiments and data analysis to exploring new material applications.
The internship provided a fantastic foundation, allowing me to learn from experienced professionals and contribute to tangible outcomes. My dedication and the valuable experience I gained during this period led to my recent promotion to Technology Development Associate. In this new role, I'm taking on more responsibility, leading specific aspects of projects, and contributing to our technological advancements. I'm excited to continue growing with MicroTau and change the boundary conditions of what's possible in our technology.
What do you do in your spare time?
In my spare time, I love to spend quality time with my partner. We're quite adventurous when it comes to exploring new food and new areas. We also have a passion for camping, and we often spend our weekends exploring new campgrounds and natural spaces around Sydney. It's a great way to disconnect, enjoy the outdoors, and make lasting memories together. (Editor’s note: cute!)
What's been most exciting to work on lately?
The most exciting thing I've been working on lately is optimizing the performance of our polymer materials for demanding manufacturing environments. We're exploring novel approaches to enhance the performance and durability of a key component for our production. It's all about changing the boundary conditions of what these materials can do to ensure they perform exceptionally well in real-world applications.
Tell us about the cool stuff you get to do as part of your role?
One of the most exciting aspects is the freedom to come up with new ideas and try them out immediately, no matter how silly or wild they might seem at first. The ability to rapidly transform a concept into an experiment and then see the effects firsthand is incredibly cool and immensely rewarding. It's like a constant cycle of innovation and discovery, and I absolutely love it.
What's your crowning achievement at MicroTau?
My crowning achievement at MicroTau has definitely been developing a viable process that's now an integral part of our manufacturing operations. It's incredibly rewarding to see my work directly impacting our products and contributing to their performance and efficiency. Knowing that something I developed is now a fundamental step in how we create our innovative solutions is a fantastic feeling.
